About Me
My name is Maria Belen Power and I am running for District 8 City Councilor in Chelsea. I am the proud mother of Maya Gabriela (7) and Ana Victoria (4) and my husband, Fidel, and I are proud Chelsea residents committed to public service and to our community. After 10 years of working in Chelsea on several quality of life issues, I feel called to extend my public service to the City Council. I want to be a voice for my neighbors and be an agent of change for our community.
The pandemic profoundly disrupted our city and exposed many of the deeply rooted systemic historic inequities that our residents have experienced for generations. Cracks in the systems revealed race and class privilege and communities like Chelsea were left to fend for themselves however we not only survived but we thrived. We created networks and local systems to address food insecurity, the housing crisis, health inequities, education for our children and much more. We have proven time and time again that the solutions must come from the ground up. We know our communities and we know what is needed. Those closest to the injustices, must shape the solutions and we must prioritize and center the voices of the unheard.
